Have you ever wondered who Casimir Pulaski was and why our town bears his name?

One of the most popular wines at Big Creek Winery is Casimir Pulaski, a handcrafted blend of Norton and Crimson Cabernet grapes. We named it in honor of both the community we call home and the remarkable man for whom Pulaski, Tennessee, was named.

Count Casimir Pulaski was a Polish military commander who came to America during the Revolutionary War to help the colonies fight for independence. His leadership, courage and skill as a cavalry officer earned him recognition as the “Father of the American Cavalry.” He later gave his life in service to the cause of freedom during the Siege of Savannah in 1779.

When our town was established, it was named Pulaski in honor of this American hero.

As our nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, it seems especially fitting to remember the men and women whose sacrifices helped secure the freedoms we enjoy today. Casimir Pulaski was one of those individuals. Though born in Poland, he believed so strongly in the American cause that he crossed an ocean to fight for it.

We thought it was only fitting that one of our wines carry that same name.

Like its namesake, Casimir Pulaski is bold, distinctive and memorable. The blend of Norton and Crimson Cabernet creates a wine with character and depth that has become a favorite among many of our guests.

The next time you visit Big Creek Winery, ask for a taste of Casimir Pulaski. You’ll enjoy a handcrafted Tennessee wine while raising a glass to the history of our hometown, the legacy of an American hero and the approaching 250th birthday of our nation.
